Two security officers employed by a local security company were recently arrested for robbery, attempted murder and hijacking.
Nkosingphile Mngomezulu and Bongani Hlatshwayo earlier robbed one of their colleagues of his firearm which was later used to shoot a victim who had offered them a lift to Chrissiesmeer. The victim was shot in the neck and the duo made off with his car to Ngwavuma, KwaZulu-Natal where it was left for two days.
Mngomezulu later returned to KZN to collect the vehicle and the police caught him with the firearm during a stop-and-search operation after Chrissiemeer Police circulated information about the missing vehicle.
According to Chrissiesmeer investigating officer Const M.C. Maredi, he received a call from the police in Ngwavuma as he was the contact person in the case.
Mngomezulu’s arrest led to the arrest of his accomplice, Hlatshwayo, in Ermelo and the two appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Office where their case was postponed to 21 November for bail application.
The suspects remain in custody at the Ermelo Correctional Centre and the victim is recovering at home.
