Police spokesman for Ermelo, Capt Carla Prinsloo, has revealed that a shocking seven charges of rape were reported in Ermelo over the past weekend.
Most of the incidents happened on Saturday night. The authenticity of two of these cases is being investigated. On Monday night yet another case was reported.
At the time of going to press on Tuesday, none of the alleged perpetrators had been arrested.
Police have called on the public to assist them with any information that may lead to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators involved in any of these and other incidents.
Police have once again issued a warning to women to avoid walking alone, especially at night, and not to accept lifts from strangers. Drinks offered to women from strangers or untrustworthy sources should also be avoided.
