20 sheep crammed into car

Upon being questioned, the driver failed to produce a permit to transport the stock or proof of purchase.

Lothair Police arrested a 24-year-old male suspect with 20 sheep crammed into his five-seater passenger car last Tuesday.

The suspect was stopped on the road between Lothair and Mpuluzi at a regular stop-and-search operation when the Police discovered all the seats had been removed and the vehicle filled with the livestock.

Upon being questioned, the driver failed to produce a permit to transport the stock or proof of purchase.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and upon further questioning, the Police discovered the sheep had been stolen from a farm near Lothair and 16 sheep had already suffocated. The suspect, Sidwell Phumlani Dladla, appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on 18 March and his case was postponed to 25 March for bail application.
