A 43-year-old woman was gunned down in a “hit-style” shooting in Klipbou Ermelo on Monday evening.

Police spokesman for Ermelo, Capt Carla Prinsloo, said the woman who has since been identified as Lungele Patricia Masango, was a passenger in a Toyota RunX driven by her brother.

The couple had driven up in front of their house when a man wearing a balaclava drove up in a white VW Polo jumped out of his vehicle and opened fire on the couple’s car with what appears to be an AK47 assault rifle.

Mr Masango managed to run to safety, but Ms Masango was fatally wounded. According to reports, the assailant circled the Masangos’ vehicle while firing the weapon. 16 cartridges were found on the scene. The motive for the murder is not known.
