On Saturday 1November at approximately 01.00, the body of an unknown man was found in a street in Kayelisha, Ermelo. When police arrived at the scene they found the deceased had been stabbed.

Also over the weekend, the naked body of 41 year-old Elliah Rose Mdakane was found dead in the bedroom of her home in Ext 33, south of Ermelo. She had been strangled.
Later, a man believed to be her boyfriend handed himself over to the police. The suspect Themba Mabena Zwane was arrested and appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s court on Monday on a charge of murder. Mabena remains in custody.
In a special operation over the weekend, police made several arrests and uncovered a disturbing number of unlicenced and illegal firearms and ammunition after information was received from the public. The operation formed part of the activities of the “Men for Change” group of police officers.
At least 5 unlicenced firearms were confiscated.
One person was arrested for the unlawful possession of ammunition, while another was arrested and charged with negligently handling a firearm after he was found to be under the influence of liquor while carrying a firearm in public.
A further two people were interrogated after they were found to be carrying realistic looking toy guns.
A woman was also arrested for the possession of an illegal firearm. The firearm was concealed in the woman’s underclothing and the serial number had been filled off.
A further seven people were arrested on drug related charges.
A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened after a woman was found unconscious next to the road between Ermelo and Breyten early on Sunday morning. The woman had suffered head injuries and it is believed she was struck by a motor vehicle. Any one with information is asked to contact the police on 017 819 2321 or 082 373 8389.
Numerous cases of house robbery and theft from motor vehicles have been reported over the past few days.
Police have warned the public to be extra vigilant, especially during the coming weeks as the festive season approaches.
