Maria has a home for Christmas

Many Christmas gifts will be exchanged this festive season, but a very special present is one of bricks and mortar.

In the early hours of 10 April this year, 58-year-old Maria Khumalo’s humble home was destroyed by fire and not having the means to repair or rebuild her home, she was forced to live with relatives.

When Ward 9 councillor MJ Mhlanga heard of Maria’s plight, he approached the management of the Mambra Construction Company for assistance. Mambra Construction is currently building new additions to Wesselton Primary School.

The wheels were put into motion and under the guidance of the site manager, Mr Terblanche Kruger, and Community Liaison Officer Lungile Angel Maseko, construction workers set about rebuilding Maria’s home in their spare time.

Last Friday, the re-built, more spacious house was officially handed over to an elated Maria, just in time for her to spend Christmas in her new home.

Cllr Mahlanga expressed his sincere thanks to the management of Mambra Construction for assisting a member of the community in this unselfish manner.
