Christmas message from Col Z.W. Mavuso, SAP Station Commander, Ermelo

The past year the community of Ermelo has suffered losses and experienced trauma, but we also had moments of joy and triumph.

I would like to thank the community of Ermelo for their support and prayers during the past year. A special word of thanks goes to members of the Community Policing Forum, sector forums as well as people involved in neighbourhood and farm-watch patrols. The South African Police Service appreciates everyone who provided the police with information or reported criminal activities. Success can only be achieved if we work together.

I appreciate the hard work and effort of police members involved in the prevention and investigation of crime.

During the festive season many people will be going on holiday. This is the time when we as the South African Police Service will work tirelessly to ensure that everyone feels safe. The police will intensify their presence in town and on the roads in and around Ermelo.

Remember to be alert. Criminals are always on the prowl, looking for opportunities to commit crime. Please do not allow them the opportunity to commit their crimes. Do not take risks by walking or driving in dark and deserted areas. Do not leave valuable items in your vehicle. Be mindful of persons trying to distract you in order to snatch cellular phones, purses or handbags. Please do not leave children unattended in vehicles – it is both unsafe and detrimental to their health.

Please drive safely.

Do not rush or speed and adhere to traffic rules. Stop regularly and rest. Do not drink and drive. Remember, being under the influence of liquor makes one an easy target for criminals. Safety begins with you.
