Two die in hit-and run-accidents

Wreckage found on one of the scenes led police to believe that a Fiat Palio may have been involved.

Two hit-and-run accidents were reported in Ermelo earlier this week.

At daybreak on Sunday morning, the body of Jabulani Simelane (32) was found next to the roadside opposite the cemetery on the N11.

Injuries to the body and wreckage found on the scene led police to believe that a Fiat Palio may have been involved in a hit-and-run accident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incidentor has information that can assist the police with investigations is
asked to contact the Ermelo Detective Branch at 017 819 2321 or 082 373 8389.

Later, on Sunday evening at about 19:30, the extensively injured body of Lukas Mathibela (53) was found lying in the road opposite the Police’s K9 unit.

A short while later the driver of a vehicle with front-end damage and a smashed windscreen was apprehended in Hendrina and arrested in connection with the incident.

He appeared in court in Ermelo on Tuesday on a charge of culpable homicide.
