A 22-year-old mother from Thusiville (Ermelo) was admitted to hospital and placed under police guard on Thursday last week after forcing her 18-month-old baby daughter to drink rat poison.
She then allegedly attempted to commit suicide by drinking the poison herself.
The mother and her baby were stabilised on the scene by ambulance personnel before being transported to hospital .
The mother was later discharged and was due to appear in the Ermelo Magistrate’s court today (Monday) on a charge of attempted murder.
On Monday the baby was still recovering in hospital.
Information received suggested that the mother and her boyfriend had been involved in an argument shortly before the incident.
Police investigations are continuing.
