Much has been said about the potholes in the streets of Msukaligwa.
The municipality has responded to the complaints and has begun with repairs.
A company by the name of Velocity was appointed by the Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) to assist with the repairs.
Potholes were previously often filled with only sand which washed away with the first rains. Now a more permanent method is being employed.
Stone covered with an emulsion is sprayed under pressure into a primed pothole. This method is fast, effective and durable and an average of 300 square metres can be done per day.
Although the problem is not going to disappear overnight, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
According to Mr Mandla Zwane, spokesman for Msuksligwa Local Municipality, GSDM has budgeted for pothole repairs, but it will not be sufficient to fill all the potholes in Msukaligwa.
The first phase for the 2015/2016 financial year has been completed and more money has been allocated for the 2016/2017 financial year.
The planning for the second phase will begin on 11 July 2016 .
The following critical streets, or sections of streets, and areas were listed for repairs by Velocity during phase 1:
Wesselton: 11th and 13th Avenue; Mandela and OR Tambo Road intersection; Everest Park (Eastern side); Kubjeka, Mabilisa, Magwaza, Manyathi, Mkhwanazi, Mtahambama and Ncongwane (Umsebe school) streets.
Ermelo: Burger Street; Horster Avenue;, Industia Road; local taxi rank; Jan van Riebeeck, Oosthuizen and Merino Streets; Nederlandse Avenue; Nomndeni Estates; Voortrekker Street, Voortrekker Street/ Border Street intersection, Wedgewood Road, Sluiter Street, West Street and Taute Street intersection.
Cassim Park: Tayob Street/ Nelspan intersection, Nelspan Road, Littledale Road.

Not all the potholes will be fixed during the GSDM project.
