‘Love Your Community’ launches fundraising drive for Msukaligwa Fire Station
The initiative’s first project is focused on improving the Msukaligwa Fire Station, with the aim of creating better conditions for firefighters and helping improve their response times.
ERMELO – Five community members have joined forces to launch Love Your Community, a local initiative aimed at supporting projects that benefit the wider community.
The group comprises Stephen Crompton, Elize Johnstone, Christiaan Uys, Carina Putter and Manto Mbokane.
The initiative’s first project is focused on improving the Msukaligwa Fire Station, with the aim of creating better conditions for firefighters and helping improve their response times.
According to the organisers, planned improvements include repairing the station’s doors, painting areas of the building and addressing leaks in the roof.
The group has established a trust account through Bekker Brink and Brink.
A fundraising day will be held on September 19, starting from 09:00 at the Msukaligwa Fire Station.
The event will include food stalls, children’s entertainment, fire truck displays, demonstrations and activities, craft and market stalls, as well as competitions and prizes.
One of the attractions will be a tug-of-war challenge, where community teams will compete against firefighters in an attempt to pull a fire truck.
Teams will consist of seven to 10 members, with a R50 entry fee per team.
Three age groups will participate: ages five to 10, 11 to 15, and 16 years and older.
The organisers are also inviting local businesses and community members to support the initiative. Stall space is available at a minimum donation of R100 per stall, with limited space available.
