Freak accident claims life

The vehicle rolled through a narrow opening at the front of the garage and forced the door closed, pinning his torso hallway inside the car.

An Ermelo resident was crushed to death by his car in a freak accident at his home in Cassim Park at about 05:00 on Saturday.

Police spokesman for Ermelo, Capt Carla Prinsloo said initial investigations suggest that the man who’s name and age have not yet officialy released, got out of his car after parking it in the garage. The car began to roll forward and he presumably opened the driver’s side door and leaned inside to pull up the handbrake.

Mpumalanga Emergency Medical Services (M-EMS) personnel were called to the scene and attempted to resuscitate the patient but he had already succumbed to his injuries.

An inquest docket has been opened by the police.
