Unlicensed firearm lands taxi passenger in trouble

The police found a 9mm Luger Parabellum pistol with its serial number filed off.

Elukwatini Police arrested a 56-year-old male for possession of an unlicensed firearm after they were tipped off by crime intelligence officials last Thursday.

Teli Elson Mlot a was arrested on his way from Fernie Trust to Elukwatini by taxi. While searching him, the police found a 9mm Luger Parabellum pistol with its serial number filed off.

The police also found 11 packets of cigarettes in his possession which he said were for the exchange trade for bags of dagga between himself and a Swaziland national.

Conss Gordon Mahlangu and Derrick Mathebula arrested him.

He appeared in the Eerstehoek Magistrate’s Court last Friday and his case was postponed to 26 July where he was denied bail.

He remains in police custody in Elukwatini.
