Murdered rape victim identified

A 26-year-old male suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The body of the young girl who was found raped and strangled in a water-filled ditch next to the Mpumalanga Stadium in Wesselton on Sunday has been identified.

She was 16-year-old, Mbali Msidi who lived with her grandmother in Wesselton.

Police spokesman for Ermelo, Capt Carla Prinsloo said on Tuesday, information received after police had issued an alert via social media to help with the identification of the deceased and search for her relatives led to the arrest of a 26-year-old male suspect.

He was due to appear in the Ermelo Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The investigating officer, Capt Khanyile, thanked the public for their help in apprehending the suspect.
