Various areas were once again affected by power outages in Ermelo last week.
According to Msukaligwa Municipality, the cause was illegal connections.
The municipal spokesman, Mr Mandla Zwane, said Cassim Park experienced outages due to thieves who stole cables.
As reported in the Highvelder on 3 August:
“No end in sight for power outages in Wesselton”, Wesselton and Cassim Park have been at the receiving end of most of the power outages, with Cassim Park said to have its own problem due to the low-voltage (LV) network.
A contractor has been brought in and was on site since mid-June to attend to the Cassim Park matter and the municipality is hoping that the maintenance project will be completed in the second week of September.
The community of Cassim Park would then have a refurbished LV network and new operational streetlights. In other related news, a notice has been issued by the municipality of a planned power interruption on Thursday, 16 August due to Eskom maintenance at the Ermelo 88Kv substation.
The electricity supply will be interrupted from 8.30am to 5.30pm.
The affected areas are:
• The southern part of Ermelo and the industrial area.
• De Bruin Park, Nomdeni, Ermelo Ext 32, 33, 34; Netherland Park and parts of the CBD.
The municipal call centre is also affected by the outage and the municipality warned the public that all electrical points and installations should be considered as live during the interruption.
