Gert Sibande District Municipality hosts motivation session for Class of 2018 in Breyten

The motivation and prayer session was aimed at encouraging the grade 12 learners as they embark on their 2018 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations which will begin on Monday, 22 October.

Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM), in conjunction with the Department of Education, hosted a motivation and prayer session for the class of 2018 at the KwaZanele Community Hall in Breyten on Thursday, 11 October.

A total of 517 pupils as well as teachers from schools in the Breyten Circuit, attended the session, which was aimed to show support and appreciation to the class of 2018.

The 2018 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations will begin on Monday, 22 October.

Parents were urged to relieve Grade 12 learners of most of their household chores and give them the necessary support in the period leading to and during the writing of the final exams.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Mayor of GSDM, Mr Muzi Chirwa, GSDM Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC), Ms Busi Sekhonde, called on the learners to put aside all distractions and focus their energy on their books in order to achieve their desired results.

Ms Sekhonde also used the platform to call on the learners to take full advantage of the bursaries that GSDM offers to learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“These are full bursaries as the GSDM pays for everything, including accommodation, books and tuition,” Ms Sekhonde said.

She also added that learners who are awarded the bursary also get a monthly stipend and all that GSDM needs from learners, is that they get the best results and are accepted to any institution of higher learning of their choice.

Tokens of appreciation aimed at assisting the learners during the exams were also handed over to all the 517 pupils from various schools in Breyten Circuit.
