Staff members and children at Ermelo Activity Centre for the Disabled were exhilarated after receiving blankets and food parcels, from the Gert Sibande District Municipal (GSDM) Whip of Council, Cllr Trevor Nkosi.
The initiative was triggered by the plight of the Non-Profit Organisation which is also dependent on the government grant and donations.
The centre houses more than 35 members with various disabilities, where it provides day care services to them.
Dog kennels built by the members at the centre, are sold to members of the community.
In his address, Cllr Nkosi commended the centre for taking care and looking after those in need with such care. He also conceded that blankets and food parcels do not provide lasting solutions to the centre’s needs.
Cllr Nkosi said: “I would like to see a situation where we work together with centres such as these and others to provide lasting solutions.
“Solutions that would allow self-sustainability.”
