Msukaligwa Municiapality responds to recent protest in Ermelo

The technicians began disconnecting and removing the illegal cable, this triggered the community protest in the area.

Protesters set fire to tires and barricaded Oosthuise Street in Ermelo on 10 December.

Mr Mandla Zwane, spokesman of Msukaligwa Municipality responded to what protesters were disgruntled about.

According to one of the police officers on the scene, protesters were upset about experiencing ongoing electricity outages as well as water disruptions.

Mr Zwane said, the municipality electricity section is flooded with complaints as residents are experiencing unplanned continuous electricity outages in Old Wesselton, other areas of Ermelo and Wesselton.

When municipal technicians investigated, they discovered that there are illegal connection in these areas.

The technicians began disconnecting and removing the illegal cable, this triggered the community protest in the area.

Thereafter,  the protest was joined by residents who had no electricity for prolonged period.
