South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW) warned residents to be on the lookout for a person scamming locals by claiming he works for Msukaligwa Municipality (MM).

Mr Raputla Shabangu, head of communications for Ermelo South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW), warned residents that the person is alleging he collects money for outstanding electricity bills owed to the MM.

According to Mr Shabangu, the person threatens to disconnect residents’ electricity unless they pay a certain amount of money.

He is using this number 076 114 1335.

Mr Mandla Zwane, the spokesman of Msukaligwa Local Municipality, said: “This person is not working for the municipality as they have not tasked an individual to call people and collect money from locals.”
