Suspect remains in police’s custody after Mayflower accident which killed nine learners

According to Mr Moeti Mmusi, the spokesman for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, he remains in custody and has applied for state legal assistance.

MAYFLOWER – The bail application hearing of the driver of the minibus that overturned on the road between Mayflower and Dundonald and claimed the lives of nine learners on February 16, was postponed to March 9.

The suspect will appear in the Elukwatini Magistrate’s Court in Mayflower.

According to Mr Moeti Mmusi, the spokesman for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, he remains in custody and has applied for state legal assistance.

The learners had been on their way home from school. The victims were aged between five and 13.

A joint funeral service for them was held at Mayflower Stadium on February 24 .

Several departments have since provided the required support to the affected families and schools.
