WESSELTON – Residents of Everest are still left in the dark after Msukaligwa Local Municipality (MLM) promised to install a new transformer during a protest at the municipal buildings on April 28.

During the march, one of the protestors, Mr Jabu Nhlapo, told Highvelder that Msukaligwa’s acting chief financial officer, Mr Sindile Phiri, provided the residents with a paper that appeared to be a proof of payment for a transformer purchased by MLM and scheduled to be installed the same day, but the residents allege that it was not done.

According to the Ward 1 councillor, Mr Samkelo Buthelezi, MLM workers only fixed the old transformer and residents are still without power.

“It seems like MLM leaders are unable to put their people first; they want to politicise everything, even the issue of basic service delivery,” Mr Buthelezi said.
