A residents informed the Highvelder about a fire hydrant at Laerskool JJ van der Merwe spewing clean drinking water on 21 June.
Mr Mandla Zwane, a spokeswoman for the Msukaligwa Municipality, previously spoke to the Highvelder about the fire hydrants that are frequently observed spraying water.
He said the cause is sometimes a burst pipe that are either being fixed or has been fixed.
“After technicians fixes the burst pipe they open the fire hydrants to blow out air inside the pipes to flush out any muddy water,” Zwane said.
Water is delivered to consumers by a complicated system of water pipes in cities and towns alike.
This system necessitates constant monitoring to assure the safety of everyone who drinks the water, and it may also necessitate hydrant cleansing to remove impurities.
Water is released from drinking water pipes and flushed out of the system as part of the procedure.
The Highvelder previously spoke with a source within the municipality who stated that this occurance is usually visible when the municipality is working on ruptured pipes.
“Flushing of the hydrants is occasionally an option to regulate the pressure within the system,” the source stated.
Highvelder again sent questions to the municipality to enquire whether the municipality or the fire brigade were aware of the spewing fire hydrant.
