Bogus doctor in Hendrina practices without licence

When confronted by the Hawks Middelburg-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, he could not provide his practice licence.

HENDRINA – Mwenze Ilunga Pierre (39) was received a fine in the Hendrina Magistrate’s Court on August 29, for contravening the provision of Section 17(5) of the Health Professions Act, Act 56 of 1974.

The sentence comes after an investigation, led by the Hawks Middelburg-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, uncovered the fraudulent activities.

The police received information on April 2, 2023 from the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), regarding a bogus doctor practising at Med-24 Hendrina.

Information was gathered through the joint efforts of the member of the Hawks and HPCSA officials.

The team visited the surgery where the doctor was practising on April 5, 2023.

A man who introduced himself as Dr Mwenze was found.

The team requested him to produce his practice licence, which he failed to comply with and was arrested.

The accused appeared in court on several occasions until he was convicted on August 23.

He was sentenced to a R2 000 fine, on condition that he does not practise medicine without a valid medical licence.
