The Ermelo SAPS has issued a stern warning to the public regarding criminals posing as police or traffic officers.
Recently, reports have surfaced of individuals using unmarked vehicles with blue lights to deceive drivers into stopping, only to rob or hijack them.
Captain Carla Prinsloo, the spokesperson for the Ermelo SAPS, cautioned, “If you are flagged down by a vehicle with a blue light, but the vehicle is not clearly marked as a police or traffic vehicle, do not stop. If you are pulled over despite attempting to avoid it, you can request that the officers provide their appointment certificates as proof of their credentials.”
She further said that legitimate police or traffic vehicles will always have clear markings, and officers will carry appropriate identification.
