Corné Botha from Ermelo drops the bass at sound competition

The sport is by no means cheap, and Botha told the newspaper that those involved spend thousands of rands to get their cars competition-ready.

ERMELO – Corné Botha, a well-known face in town, recently won three first prizes at the Fired Up Events vehicle sound competition in Middelburg.

Botha said he developed a love of loud music from a young age.

“To feel the pressure in the car for those few seconds is what draws me to car sound competitions,” Botha said.

After school, he worked in the United States for seven years before he moved to Ermelo.

He became a regular customer of Newton Sew of Planet Shakers and the two spent hours and nights in the shop improving his sound.

The duo said their friendship did not start on a good note, but they soon realised that they speak the same language when it comes to sound.

To achieve good quality or extreme decibels, Botha and Sew worked late nights to build the perfect sound box.

The sport is by no means cheap, and Botha told the newspaper that those involved spend thousands of rands to get their cars competition-ready.
