Carolina Magistrate’s Court grants bail to 12 public violence accused

The Carolina Magistrate’s Court, on 28 February, granted bail to 12 people accused of public violence .
The accused spent two nights behind bars before they were granted bail of R2 000 each.
The 12 accused, 11 men and one woman (aged between 19 and 44) were part of a group of community members from Kromkrans in Carolina who blockaded a road leading to the Areshomeng Mine on Monday night, 26 February.
According to Carolina police, the community members turned violent and began throwing stones at passing vehicles.
Police then effected the arrest of the 12 individuals.
According to police spokesperson Captain Magonseni Nkosi, there is, reportedly, a court order issued to the community members on behalf of the mine.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, lieutenant general Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, strongly condemned the acts of violence and called upon affected parties to reach an amicable solution.
