Ermelo resident captures stunning aurora borealis

De Beer described the experience as unforgettable

Lourens de Beer, an Ermelo resident, recently captured a breathtaking photo of the aurora borealis, commonly known as the Northern Lights.

The high-resolution image was taken in the “Prairies” near Kirriemuir, Alberta, Canada, at 01:00 during a visit to his children and grandchildren.

Lourens de Beer’s stunning capture.

De Beer described the experience as unforgettable and shared the unique challenges he faced while taking the photo.

“I didn’t have a tripod with me and had to lie flat on my stomach on the grass in -3°C, with my hand under the lens to lift and hold it steady,” he recounted.

Despite the freezing conditions, his determination paid off, resulting in this stunning capture.
