Aspirant knight and Kare Bearz want to breath new life into family park in Ermelo

Too often, adults are seen drinking, littering, occupying play areas meant for children, and misusing the park’s facilities.

ERMELO – The Ermelo Kare Bearz are hosting a prego braai in front of PureJoy, tomorrow, March 27 from 08:00 to 15:00 with 200 beef and 200 chicken prego rolls available.

They will be sold at R40 each and deliveries are available for orders over 10.

The proceeds from this braai will go toward a project led by Theressa van der Walt, the 2017 F&I CE Knight of the Year.

Van der Walt has identified the need for renovations at the family park behind Family Life Church in De Bruin Park.

The play structures and swings are in dire need of replacement. The project also aims to install lighting and place concrete barriers around the park to prevent vehicles from accessing the play area, ensuring the safety of children, similar to the setup at Veltman Park.

Earlier this month, Van der Walt, along with members of the Patriotic Alliance, carried out a clean-up at the park.

They removed litter, pruned trees, and gardening services were hired to cut the grass.

The cleanliness was, however, short-lived. Over the past weekends, people have parked their cars in the park, discarded alcohol bottles, and left litter strewn everywhere.

Glass shards also pose a risk to barefoot children who frequent the park.

For this reason, Van der Walt also aims to install rubbish bins in the park in the hope of reducing littering.

“The community needs to understand that parks in Ermelo are there for everyone to enjoy. At the same time, it should be a shared responsibility to maintain these parks and ensure their upkeep and cleanliness,” she said.

Several stakeholders have also attempted to renovate and maintain Veltman Park in De Bruin Park. Unfortunately, the same problems arise repeatedly.

Too often, adults are seen drinking, littering, occupying play areas meant for children, and misusing the park’s facilities. Highvelder has reported on this issue numerous times.

Stakeholders invest time and resources into renovating and replacing damaged structures, only for the same cycle to repeat, leading to a decline in efforts to provide a safe and enjoyable space for all.

Van der Walt and the Kare Bearz encourage residents to support this cause and get involved in any way possible to help renovate and maintain the family park, making it a place for both young and old to enjoy.
