The Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality commits to clean governance
The Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality council has made moves to improve infrastructure and ensure stable electricity.
CAROLINA – The Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality (CALLM) presented a series of resolutions on governance, electricity and infrastructure following its April 30 council meeting, with promises of improved service delivery and financial discipline.
The executive mayor, Mbuso Magubane, tabled a series of reports detailing progress during the third quarter of the 2024/25 financial year. The meeting resulted in a number of unanimous resolutions aimed at advancing infrastructure development and accountability.
A significant highlight was the reallocation of R2.2m towards electrifying the Ema C area in Ward 10.
The funding shift is reportedly a response to national grant reductions, and the municipality says it aims to maintain project momentum despite budget constraints.
In addition, the officials confirmed a R10.1m payment to Eskom, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply and good financial standing with the national power utility.
The council approved a partnership with the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) to co-manage two major routes – the R33 (Voortrekker Street) and the R36 (Kerk Street) – within the municipal boundaries.
