More details emerge after eight killed in N17 crash near Ermelo
Two children aged two years and three months were among those who died in the devastating N17 collision.
ERMELO – New details have emerged about the eight people killed in a head-on collision on the N17 toll route between Ermelo and Davel in the early hours of September 13.
The crash, involving Toyota and Volkswagen (VW) sedans, occurred near the Ermelo Toll Plaza at about 01:30.
Zandile Mavuso, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, has since confirmed further details about those involved in the crash.
Mavuso has confirmed that the seven occupants of the VW included two minors, aged two years and three months, respectively. All seven occupants of the VW were killed.
She has indicated that the driver of the Toyota, who was its only occupant, was killed in the collision.
Mavuso further confirmed that the VW’s occupants had attended a religious event in KwaZulu-Natal before travelling towards Gauteng.
The Toyota driver, meanwhile, had been travelling from Bethal when the collision occurred.
The residence of the Toyota driver has not yet been confirmed.
The circumstances leading to the collision remain unknown at this stage, and investigations are ongoing.
