VIDEO – New AVBOB library sparks excitement at Ermelo School
Since the first library, the initiative has invested over R35m; donated more than 210 000 books; and reached over 63 000 learners and 1 900 educators.
ERMELO – Excitement filled the air at Bashele Primary School in Wesselton as learners, parents and educators celebrated the opening of a brand-new container library donated by Avbob on August 21.
The R532 000 facility, stocked with 3 000 books, is the 71st launched under Avbob’s nationwide container library project.
Since the first library at Shukumani Primary in 2013, the initiative has invested over R35m; spent R3.5m on refurbishment and and maintenance of facilities; donated more than 210 000 books; and reached over 63 000 learners and 1 900 educators across all nine provinces.
“This space will serve as a gateway to knowledge, imagination and opportunity for every child who walks through its doors,” said Kebo Mosweusweu, Avbob’s general manager for Shared Value and Sustainability.
Learners also expressed excitement. “The library will help us improve our reading skills, do homework and research, and save transport costs as we no longer need to travel to other libraries,” said one pupil. “It is where me and my friends can explore new worlds through books.”
Avbob said it will continue to support its beneficiary schools with maintenance and literacy-related assistance, as part of its long-term commitment to improving foundational education in underserved communities.
