Video shows reported tornado near Carolina

Residents across the region began the New Year by picking up the pieces after a massive storm swept through Chrissiesmeer, Carolina, and Breyten earlier today, 1 January.
A video shared by Storm Report SA, shows a possible tornado on the Wonderfontein Road, near Carolina.
The severe weather brought destructive winds and heavy rain, leaving a trail of uprooted trees and significant structural damage to homes and infrastructure.
Chaos in Chrissiesmeer
In Chrissiesmeer, the storm’s impact was deeply personal for many.
A local resident, Koos van den Heever, reported that his brother’s home was severely damaged when a massive tree was uprooted, crashing into the living room.
The force of the wind was strong enough to rip the roof off a carport, sending debris flying.

Travel Disruptions Between Ermelo and Breyten
Motorists faced significant delays today on the road between Ermelo and Breyten.
Louis Bates told the Highvelder that the road connecting Ermelo and Breyten became a primary site of chaos.
“A big part of the road was closed due to trees that fell over across the lanes,” Bates said, noting that the debris made the route impassable for some time.
Unconfirmed Reports: Caravan Incident
Reports have also surfaced regarding a man near Chrissiesmeer, who’s caravan was caught in the winds and hurled by the storm with him inside it. The individual reportedly went to the Ermelo Mediclinic for treatment following the incident.
At this stage, these reports have not been officially verified by Highvelder.
