Ermelo donation drive to support vulnerable families and care centres

Businesses, schools, churches and community organisations are invited to help provide much-needed essentials to those most in need in Ermelo and Breyten.

ERMELO – The community is being encouraged to support a Nelson Mandela Day donation drive that will assist vulnerable residents in Ermelo and Breyten.

Through donations of essential items, the initiative will benefit more than 140 child-headed households, the CMR Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC) and the old age and disability centre in Breyten.

Residents, businesses, schools, churches and community organisations are invited to contribute food hampers, non-perishable food items, blankets, towels, toiletries and clothing.

The donation drive, co-ordinated by the DA Women’s Network, got off to an encouraging start on July 3, when the first donation of clothing was handed over to the CMR CYCC.

Local DA PR councillor Hannah Peachey said the donation was intended to inspire others in the community to get involved.

She added that the beneficiaries are in urgent need of food and other basic necessities.

Peachey encouraged local businesses and community groups to lend their support, “Every contribution, no matter how big or small, can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.”

With Nelson Mandela Day centred on giving back, the initiative aims to rally the community to support those most in need.

Anyone wishing to contribute or obtain more information about the donation drive is encouraged to contact Peachey on 064 634 4542.
