Airlink flyover leaves international viewers stunned, Mzansi wants more
While viewers abroad questioned the daring manoeuvre, South Africans quickly found plenty of humour in the spectacle.
The dramatic Airlink flyover over DHL Stadium has attracted plenty of attention, with international aviation watchers expressing surprise at just how close the aircraft appeared to the stadium.
In South Africa, however, the reaction has been rather different.
Social media quickly filled with jokes, memes and typically South African reactions to the spectacular sight, with users seemingly far more entertained than concerned.

Among the reactions was the now-familiar South African sentiment of “give that pilot a Bells”, while comedians also joined in with parody videos inspired by the flyover.
The reaction has also brought renewed attention to the famous 1995 SAA Boeing 747 flyover at Ellis Park, giving South Africans another reason to compare spectacular rugby-related flypasts from different eras.
With another Airlink flyby expected to form part of the build-up to the Springboks’ next Test at FNB Stadium in Soweto, social media users are already looking ahead.
Here are some of the reactions, videos and memes doing the rounds:
