Concerned resident, Ermelo:
I note that speed humps were installed in Pet Street. This was done after the tragic accident in which a young girl died.
It was never said that speed caused this accident, but my question is: are speed humps really the solution?
The speed humps that were erected in Kerk Street only entice the drivers of SUVs, LDVs and trucks to drive faster to cross these humps. Some drivers seem to believe the higher your speed, the easier you cross said humps. I hope this will not happen in Pet Street.
The speed humps in Kerk Street also highlight the number of extra heavy vehicles, at night time, that illegally use Kerk Street as a way through town.
This problem is escalating and it seems that nothing is being done about this by the Police or Traffic Departments.
By not using the designated routes, the trucks contribute to the deterioration of our streets, which are already in a very bad state.
I hereby ask the relevant authorities, police and the Traffic Department under command of Mr Maluleke to make it a priority to address this problem.
