Has modern society destroyed chivalry?

The high crime rate as well as the negativity that we are bombarded with daily in all forms of media, has slowly eroded all good intentions and trust between people.

On several occasions over the past weeks I have driven past both men and women walking along the roads in the blazing heat of the day.

One’s first thoughts are obviously to stop and offer them a lift.

After all, we were taught to be kind to others, and it seems like the right thing to do.
But is it still?

The high crime rate as well as the negativity that we are bombarded with daily in all forms of media, has slowly eroded all good intentions and trust between people.

Normally, one would not think twice of offering or accepting a lift, but these are not normal times.

Accepting a lift from strangers has always been a risky thing to do for both parties involved, but nowadays it has almost become a no-no.

Apart from the fact that females can be raped and even murdered by drivers with a gutter mentality, the drivers can find themselves in a great deal of trouble by unscrupulous females who falsely claim to have been taken advantage of.

Likewise, even offering a male a lift can be dangerous. How do we know our kindness will not be repaid with a gun or knife stuck in the ribs and the vehicle taken?

So, yes, we have all become more afraid and distrustful of one another and the kindness and good intentions are sometimes best left alone.

The human kindness we like to display has been suppressed by the baddies. Kind deeds and honest chivalry have been smothered by the bad things we hear about and see every day.

So, Stranger, I’m sorry that I drove past you. But I don’t trust you and you more than likely do not trust me.
