Women unite against abuse
Motivational Speaker, Pearl Mbili, hosted a Brave and Beautiful woman's breakfast on Woman's Day.

PEARL Mbili, a Pinetown resident, held a Brave and the Beautiful women’s breakfast on Friday 9 August.
Mbili, who has been a motivational speaker since 2011, deals with women in KwaZulu-Natal who have suffered emotional and/or physical abuse.
She and Norma Mkhize, a police officer of Point Place SAPS have started an organisation, called the Brave and the Beautiful, that works with women who have been abused physically, emotionally and sexually.
“The aim of the breakfast is to make women realise that they have to speak out and to instil values in them. We have to appreciate ourselves. We should not wait for men to compliment us. We can do things ourselves. In Zulu, we say ‘imbokodo’, which means ‘we are rocks’,” said Mbili.
On the day Mbili handed out certificates that would remind the women that they should never tolerate abuse. Mbili also explained the concept of abuse and informed the women that abuse is not always physical.
The guests were also given advice on how to deal with abuse. “There is always someone that you can talk to, for example, there is Open Door Crisis Centre in Pinetown,” said Mbili.
Mbili was also a victim of abuse. She has written a book The Tricks of a Woman, in which she talks about her own experiences of abuse and how she managed to break free.
