Junior ruggas clinch three wins
Local rugby team, the Hillcrest Villagers Junior Rugby Club, took home three wins at the weekend.
HILLCREST Villagers junior rugby club played at Harlequins on the Bluff last Sunday, winning all three of its games.
The U16 team came up against a surprisingly resilient outfit from Queensburgh and won 26-0, with Tristan Dixon, Donovan Grant, Kevin Smit and Jordan Stubbs all crossing the whitewash for Hillcrest. Smit added the extras for three of the touchdowns.
The U13B team fought a hard battle against Harlequins but eventually beat its opponents 17-10. Gareth Ries dotted down twice for Hillcrest with Kyle Kilfoil also scoring a five pointer. Keagan Hosken landed one conversion.
The U15 team took on a “Barbarians” outfit who stood in for Pinetown for an easy 62-0 win. Hillcrest boys Taylor Edwards, Michael Namenyi (3), Corbin Small, Alex Little (2) and Kwanele Pewa (2) all took part in the try fest with Ruan Pretorius adding six conversions.
This weekend will see many of the Hillcrest players playing in trials matches for the coveted places in the DRSU teams which will compete in the Inter-provincial tournament in Pretoria in the October holidays. League matches will resume on Sunday 25 August.
