Plant Fair to focus on sturdy flora
The annual BotSoc Indigenous Plant Fair takes place at Munies Sports Field on 7 and 8 September.

DON’T miss the annual BotSoc (Botanical Society) Indigenous Plant Fair which takes place at the Munies Sports Field, John Zikhali Road (Sydenham Road) in Durban on 7 and 8 September from 9am to 4pm each day.
This year BotSoc is showcasing resilient and tough indigenous plants that will sustain your garden.
It’s an opportunity to learn more about the amazing spectrum of plants for a variety of habitats. There’s lots to see and hear with displays of flora and fauna and conservation, and free advice from environmental experts. Entrance is R5 each and children under 12 enter free.
The popular 2013 Indigenous Gardening Handbook is available at R25 each and includes useful information on a wide range of topics.
It also includes the plant catalogue of up to 800 plants, with short descriptions that will be available for sale at the fair. This year, the handbook has more than 10 articles by a number of well-known writers and specialists in their field, such as Elsa Pooley and Jenny Dean. They all offer the gardeners ideas to enable them to create sustainable and more resilient systems within their own gardens. In doing so, they will facilitate their surrounding ecosystem to become more sustainable, creating a beneficial knock-on effect.
The 2013 Indigenous Plant Fair Handbook is available at nurseries and outlets in and around Durban.
