CAMPERDOWN Regional Court sentenced 35-year-old Silindelo Msibi to life imprisonment for rape on Thursday, 29 August.
According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer Lt Bongumusa Manqele, Msibi was arrested after raping a 10-year-old girl on 17 February 2011.
Msibi had been asked by the girl’s grandmother to accompany her to a local tuck shop. On the way there, Msibi forced the girl into the bushes and raped her. The victim reported the rape to her grandmother who opened a case at the Mpumalanga Police Station. The docket was transferred to Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
“Det W/O Hlanganani Hlela was assigned to the case and his thorough investigation led to the arrest of the accused. W/O Hlela is commended for the excellent work of presenting well investigated docket before the Magistrate who eventually passes an appropriate sentence, fitting the heinous crime committed on a young defenceless child,” said Manqele.
