Local polo team bags win

No horsing around for the Shongweni Polo Club as they take a win in their latest match.

THE Shongweni Polo Club hosted a successful tournament at their home ground at the Durban Shongweni Club on Friday 23 August. The local team took on team Ottowa, from the North Coast and won 7 – 3.

With polo on the steady decline in the Durban area, brothers Murray and Geoff Evennett with long-time friend banded together with Robbie Gillitt to save the Durban Polo Club, now named the Shongweni Polo Club. The club was able to be revived thanks to Anton Mostert, chairman of the Durban Shongweni Equestrian Club and Walter Grinrod, president of the South African Polo Association.

According to Murray Evennett the club has started growing and is returning to its roots.

The team practices every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 3pm. Contact Shana on 031 768 1251.
