Hearty donation for local Babies Home

A group of four estate agents at the Wakefields Westville office did a month long charity drive for a local Babies Home.

WAKEFIELDS estate agents donated all the goodies they collected during a month long charity drive to the Edith Benson Babies Home on Friday.

Bags upon bags of various goodies were dropped off at the Wakefields office in Westville throughout August and at the company’s property expo at the Westville Mall. Packets of apples, biscuits, baby formula, maize, rice, hand-knitted goodies and various other items were donated to the home.

This initiative was part of their efforts to contribute to the social upliftment of underprivileged children in Westville and surrounding areas.

“This very generous donation means a whole lot to all of us here and will definitely make a huge difference. The fruit is most welcome and the maize and rice will go a long way,” said Kudzai Muhwati-Chimango, manager at the Edith Benson Babies Home.

The home cares for 60 children from birth to five years old, many of whom have been either abandoned, abused or neglected and some of whom are HIV positive and are on ARVs.

According to Jacqui Cousins, one of the estate agents who spearheaded the project, her colleague Shelley Cooper has a history with the home and they came up with the idea to start a charity drive.

“This home relies heavily on donations and we would just like to thank the community who got involved with the project,” said Cousins.
