Shongweni K9 Unit received a R50 000 donation from Highway Spar owners.
SA GUARDIANS and community safety will be administering the R50 000 funds donated by Spar stores to support the Shongweni K9 Unit.
Brian Jones, one of the founders of SA Guardians and community safety, said the funds will be spent on awareness days for the dedicated K9 unit .
“The money will also be used to to build personal relationship between the unit, neighbourhood watches, CPFs, street patrollers and other organisations that have dedicated themselves in fighting crime,” he said.
SA Guardians and community safety was founded 11 months ago after the Mooi River triple murder where Lorraine Karg, Hilda Linyane and Zakhewo Mhlongo were murdered on the Karg farm in 2010.
The organisation was registered last month and Spar is its first sponsor. Spar owners from the Highway area and the main offices donated the cheque.
“We are very thankful to them, we would love other organisation to work together with us,” said Jones.
