Glenwood Hoppers spring to action at cricket festival
The annual Jonsson Mynahs U11 Twenty/20 Festival concluded at the weekend.
SOME excellent play on bat and ball from the youngsters concluded the annual Jonsson Mynahs U11 Twenty/20 Festival held at Kearsney College and Highbury.
Despite being washed out on Saturday, games were made up and the two play days produced some excellent cricket from the 18 participating teams.
The best batsman award went to Chad Laycock of the Umgeni Mambas with 198 runs, and best bowler went to Sahil Singh of the Glenwood Hoppers.
Pool winners were Navy Caps Umgeni Mambas, Red caps Glenwood Hoppers and Navy caps Highbury Hurricanes. Glenwood Hoppers were the overall winning team.
Now in its fifth year, the festival has grown to include 16 top primary school teams and two development sides sponsored by the KZN Cricket Union.
Participating school teams were the Highbury Hurricanes, Thomas More Titans, Hillcrest Hotshots, Westville Warriors, Kloof Cobras, Winston Park Pythons, Curro HCA Pinch Hitters, DPHS Dragons, Glenwood Hoppers, Clifton Chargers, Chelsea Lions, Northlanders, Crawford Kings X1, Umhlali Dolphins, Pelham Panthers and St Charles Strikers; together with KZNCU development sides Umgeni Mambas and Durban Central Tigers.
