Shoppers educated about remote jamming

Shoppers received valuable tips on preventing car jamming.

HILLCREST SAPS held a crime awareness campaign at Hillcrest Corner to inform and educate shoppers about one of the most prevalent crimes at the moment – remote jamming.

Remote jamming is where criminals gain access to people’s cars and steal their belongings. Most cars have an automatic locking system that works with a remote. The system in the car’s remote gets jammed when intercepted by the signal from another remote. It could be an automatic gate or another car remote that jams this signal. The car then doesn’t complete the locking process and gets jammed, leaving the vehicle unlocked and unprotected against theft or damage.

The SAPS handed out flyers and gave tips on how people could prevent becoming a victim of this crime. They advised shoppers to ensure that their cars are always locked and not to leave any visible valuables in their cars.

Hillcrest Corner management thanked the SAPS for providing useful information so that shoppers could take the necessary precautions to protect themselves against remote jamming.
