Trees planted in Elizabeth Park

KHBA, Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association, Elizabeth Park, West Riding, Hillcrest. Parks & Gardens, Parks Board, Arbor Day, tree planting, alien vegetation

MEMBERS of Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association supported Arbor month by planting six saplings donated by Barry Lang from Parks & Gardens at Elizabeth Park in West Riding.

The team adopted the park, which is one of only two green lungs in Hillcrest, in 2008 and has been instrumental in keeping the park clear of invasive aliens, ensuring the Nqutu stream flows and keeping the grass cut.

Only one tree remains from the five saplings planted last year which were possibly vandalised. The KHBA isn’t going to give up and has acquired the help of nearby resident, Neil Northover, who has agreed to oversee Elizabeth Park and try and ensure that this year’s trees aren’t tampered with. Neil has also offered to organise some brushcutting in the park.
