Robber sentenced to 18 years imprisonment

VELLEM Sanele was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for robbery and three years for assault GBH on Monday 16 September in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.

A man from Paradise Valley reported a robbery and assault GBH after he was robbed by Vellem and assaulted. The man was in his vehicle at the junction of the M13 and Richmond Road with his window half open when Vellem approached him and pulled out a knife and robbed him of his cellphone.

Two men and a Metro Police officer who saw the attack chased after Vellem when he tried to flee the scene. Vellem stabbed the Metro officer in the hand when he tried to apprehend him but Vellem was arrested and the cellphone was recovered.

The investigation by Detective Warrant Officer Ryno Swanepoel led to a successful conviction.
