Nineteen injured in weekend accidents
Two serious accidents left nineteen people injured.
NINETEEN people were injured in two separate accidents at the weekend. On Friday 15 November three vehicles collided on Blair Atholl Road in Westville at approximately 6pm leaving three people seriously injured.
According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director of Rescue Care one of the drivers was trapped in his vehicle. Hydraulic equipment was used to free the seriously injured man while paramedics used advanced life support intervention to stabilise him. Once extricated from the wreckage he was taken to a nearby hospital. Two people sustained minor injuries and were also taken to a nearby hospital. The cause of the accident is unknown.
The second accident occurred on the N3 in Pinetown at approximately 6pm. According to Eugene Msomi, Metro Police spokesman, a taxi crashed into a broken down truck.
According to Jamieson paramedics arrived on the scene to find the taxi had rolled several times before coming to rest in the centre median on its roof, ejecting some of its passengers. Sixteen people were injured, four sustained moderate injuries. Once stabilized the injured were transported to various Durban hospitals for further care.
SAPS was on scene and will investigate the causes of the two accidents.
