ST Benedict School’s chose Grade 10 pupil, Savannah Thompson, as their star of the month.
Savannah recently travelled to Canada representing South Africa in both the kumite (fighting) and the kata divisions. Savannah gave a good account, losing out on a medal to the eventual champion in each division.On her return from Canada, Savannah took part in the South African Japanese karate championship in Johannesburg, where she won Gold in both the kumite and the kata divisions.
Head of high school, Darren de Gouviea-Smith said, “Savannah has had a very busy year. She participated in the KSA held in Durban in March, where she won gold for the kumite division and bronze for the kata division.
“In September, Savannah participated in the South African championships in Johannesburg, winning silver in the kumite division and bronze in the kata division. Savannah was awarded her South African junior Protea colours.
