Pinetown gunfight video: Suspect linked to Sydenham hijacking

Pinetown shoot-out viral video suspect is expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate's Court facing a Sydenham hijacking case.

SINENHLANHLA Myeza (35), who was arrested at KwaDabeka in connection with three counts of attempted murder, attempted hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition for an incident on October 9 in Pinetown has been linked with another hijacking case in Sydenham.

KZN police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza reported that the Sydenham incident, which occurred in September 2026, involved the hijacking of a vehicle during which a firearm was stolen.

“It is reported that on the day of the incident a father and his two children were reversing out of their driveway when unknown suspects alighted from the vehicle behind them. One of the suspects allegedly started firing shots towards the father, who returned fire and fatally wounded one suspect.

“Following further investigation, information led Pinetown detectives to KwaDabeka, where a 35-year-old suspect was arrested. The suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and 14 rounds of ammunition,” said Magwaza.

Myeza has been charged in connection with the Sydenham case and he will appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today (Monday, November 2).
